Mitre Peak

Mitre Peak is situated in Milford Sound and is part of on Fiordlands National Heritage Park. Named because of its resemblance to the shape of the bishop's mitre or head-dress, when viewed from the south. The peak rises almost sheer above the Sound to a height of 1,692 metres and the summit actually consists of five closely grouped individual peaks. Waterfalls cascade at every turn into the dark waters and forests and fauna cling to the slopes.
