Milford Sound

Milford Sound is situated on the south-west coast of the South Island in Fiordlands National Heritage Park and runs 15 kilometres inland from the Tasman Sea. Surrounded by sheer rock faces that rise 1,200 metres or more on either side with the most spectacular, Mitre Peak reaching 1,692 metres. Waterfalls cascade at every turn into the dark waters and forests and fauna cling to the slopes. Wildlife is abundant with dolphins, seals and penguins observed in their natural habitat.
