Dunedin Railway Station

Code: NZDRS

Dunedin Railway Station, designed by Railways Department architect George Troup was opened in 1906. Built with Oamaru limestone facings on black basalt rock, featuring ornamental ceilings and mosaic floor of almost 75,000 Royal Dalton tiles and the country’s longest platform of 1 kilometre, is a reflection of Dunedin's wealthy inheritance.

During the city's most prosperous years, this railway station was the country's busiest, handling up to 100 trains each day. Today daily sightseeing trains run from the station through the Taieri Gorge and up the Coast, the platform hosts South Island's main fashion show and much of the ground floor is used as a restaurant with the upper floor housing an art gallery and a sports hall of fame.
